*FEMA announced Tuesday that Georgia is among eight Southeastern states sharing more than $44 million in disaster-prep funding. The goal is to help communities make smarter decisions about where and how they build in flood-prone areas. State emergency planners say every federal dollar spent to prevent disaster damage will save about six dollars in future losses. Federal officials have not named specific Georgia communities or said when the new support begins.
*Georgia State University is enhancing its research capabilities with a new nine-story tower on its downtown Atlanta campus. Governor Brian Kemp and university President M. Brian Blake attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the 155,000-square-foot building on Tuesday.
*Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper is urging Georgians to exercise caution when hiring pest control services following a recent increase in reports of unlicensed individuals going door-to-door to solicit business. Harper is reminding consumers to verify that anyone selling pest control services is properly licensed by requesting to see a valid structural pest control license before signing a contract or allowing work to begin.
*The death of a four-year-old girl is under investigation in Bibb County. The child was rushed to a Macon hospital after falling into a trash can full of water at a house on Rocky Creek Road last weekend. Bibb County’s coroner told WMAZ that the girl was trying to play with fish inside the can before the accident. She died at the hospital.
