The drought in Georgia continues its comeback, gaining more ground and increasing in intensity in places the past week.
The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) said today 6.5% of the state is now considered “drought-free,” compared to 9.8% last Thursday. And the driest parts of the state include portions of Hall, Rabun, Habersham, White, Lumpkin, Dawson, and Forsyth counties.
The “drought-free” regions are found, as few as they are, in the Carrollton, Columbus, Tifton, and Statesboro areas.
And the level of Lake Lanier continues to get lower. It’s down another quarter-of-a-foot to1064.9 this week.
