Texas man charged following S. Hall police standoff

A Waller, Texas, man remained in the Hall County Jail early Tuesday afternoon after he reportedly assaulted a Flowery Branch motel employee early Sunday and briefly refused to surrender to responding law enforcement officers.

Police got the call to the Hampton Inn & Suites on Holland Dam Road just after midnight Saturday. Investigators determined that Warren King, 62, threatened front desk staff, struck a maintenance employee with his fist, broke her phone, and held her against her will for a short time.

“King then locked himself inside his room and refused to come out,” Flowery Branch Police Lt. Christopher Compton said Tuesday. “Flowery Branch officers, joined by deputies from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and Oakwood police, attempted for about two hours to get him to surrender. Arrest warrants were obtained, and officers breached the door to take King into custody.”

Lt. Compton said King was not injured. “The employee sustained minor injuries and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.”

King was charged with battery, terroristic threats, simple assault, and obstruction of law enforcement officers and was being held without bond.
