*A man is dead after a yard work accident in Richmond County. WJBF reports a 67-year-old man died when a lawnmower he was riding at Fenwick Street and James Brown Boulevard flipped into a canal last Saturday. The sheriff’s office says he drowned in the canal after becoming trapped in the water. The man was working for a privately-owned lawn company at the time.
*Republican Gov. Kemp is endorsing GOP Congressman Mike Collins in the U.S. Senate race. Kemp announced his support on social media yesterday, saying they share a commitment to making Georgia an even better place to live, work and raise a family. Collins is facing Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff in the Senate race. Ossoff claims Collins surrounds himself with neo-Nazis and white nationalists.
*Georgia election ballots are starting to be sent out this week. The Secretary of State’s office says overseas and military absentee ballots are the first ones to be mailed out. Voters still have until October 23 to request an absentee ballot. The registration deadline comes up October 5.
*The World Cup doesn’t appear to have helped increase hotel occupancy in Atlanta this summer. The Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau revealed yesterday that occupancy was actually down four percent in June, year-to-year. The rate dropped even more in July, dipping by ten percent.
