NWS: Wet weekend ahead

Shower and thunderstorm chances are increasing through the weekend as Gulf moisture funnels back into the area, with the highest totals expected over the north and western areas.

“Some storms could produce excessive rates over most of the area with a Marginal Risk over most of the area on Friday afternoon through the weekend,” the advisory says. “Up to 2.5 inches of over north and west Georgia” with about one inch elsewhere. Localized flash flooding is possible.

The forecast for the Gainesville area is for around two inches.

“Warm, moist air sticks around through next week with high temperatures 5-10 degrees above normal,” the weather service says.
