August in Gainesville was hotter & drier than normal

Much has been written and said about the Heat Domes that settled over our part of the country during August and the number of Heat Advisory days the weather service issued. And, of course, some of that has carried over to this month.

But, for now, let’s look at the stats for August courtesy of noaa.gov, which shows an average daily high of 89, three degrees above normal. Contrast that with last August, which was cooler than normal: August cooler than normal

There were eleven days (did it seem like more?) when the temperature was 90 or higher, peaking with a 96 on the 18th. The “coolest” high was on the 6th – an 84.

Rainfall was 2.80 inches, well below the 5.13 inches which is normal for the month.
