The GBI credits the Barrow and Jackson County sheriff’s offices with helping crack a four-year-old Hartwell murder. Eight other agencies were also recognized.
The investigation led to the arrests of five people in connection with a shooting that occurred at Jack’s Bar and Grill in Hartwell on September 5, 2022, that resulted in the deaths of Roberius Thornton, age 39, of Hartwell, and Joseph Johnson, age 24, of Bowman, Georgia. Several other people were wounded. during the incident.
The suspects range in age from 21-31 and are from Bowman, Hartwell, Canon, Ga., and Anderson, S.C.
The GBI did not specify what the assisting agencies did in connection with the investigation.
