As the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Internal Affairs Unit continues its audit
of the agency’s Flock Safety system, a third detective has been fired for
unauthorized use of the system.
Melissa Wood, who had served most recently as a property crimes investigator
with the agency, was terminated on Wednesday. The ongoing
investigation determined Wood had used the Flock system several times to
determine the whereabouts of a person known to her. The searches were
personal in nature and unrelated to law enforcement purposes.
Wood had been employed by the sheriff’s office since 2022.
The violations, along with others discovered during the ongoing audit which have resulted in the firing of several officers, will be referred to the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council and
the Hall County Solicitor’s Office for further review.
