Hall County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Gainesville man for first-degree burglary over the weekend after a series of incidents that began with an argument between people and led to one of them trashing and burglarizing the other’s home. This happened early Sunday morning.
HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:
“Deputies responded to the house on Cottage Lane at approximately 7:10 a.m. after receiving a report of suspicious activity at the home overnight. They found an entry door and garage door open and a window that appeared to have been forced open. Deputies checked the house for occupants, but no one was there.
“Several items inside the home had been smashed, including four TVs, a computer and a tablet. The house was in disarray, with several pieces of furniture damaged, pictures removed from the walls and items from the refrigerator thrown across the kitchen.
“Deputies identified the resident of the home, a 31-year-old woman, and began working to identify the suspect.
“According to the initial investigation, the victim and suspect, who knew one another, were involved in a dispute the night before. The suspect, identified as Nathan Cole Carawan, 33, went to her house after the dispute and caused the damage.
“Patrol deputies obtained arrest warrants for Carawan. They took him into custody without incident with assistance from the Warrant Service Unit later Sunday morning at his residence in the 5200 block of Mount Vernon Road.
“Deputies transported Carawan to the Hall County Jail for booking, where he used the jail phone to make several calls to the victim despite her telling him to stop. Deputies additionally charged him with misdemeanor harassing phone calls.”
Carawan remained in jail Monday afternoon.
