Hall County Commissioner-elect Tyler Crawford wants people in the county to get more involved in keeping an eye on the workings of their county government and he’s publicly expressing hope for a showing at upcoming meetings dealing with the county’s future.
“If you’ve been following along with Hall County Government and specifically the Planning & Zoning side, you probably have heard of the Comprehensive Plan more in the past year than the entire time you’ve been following along,” Tyler Crawford writes in a Facebook post. “Several reasons for that but the most important part is the Comp Plan is really supposed to be influenced by YOU, the People.”
It is a requirement of the state but above and beyond that, Crawford notes, it is meant to truly guide what people want to see in their community.
“While the 2024 plan is currently seeing a minor update in some of the allowances in character areas and changes to definitions that should be addressed at the (commission’s) September 10 Voting Meeting, the traditional 3.5 year ‘Major’ update is progressing as expected leading up to the June 20th, 2027 major update presentation,” he writes.
“The Major update can really put things on the table:
Do you have concerns with the Character Areas, Overlay zones, and Future Land Use map? Bring that up.
Do you want to see an incentivized zone in rural areas for minor “subdivisions” with lessened restrictions on frontage, road access, permitting, etc for privately owned development on large lots (2+ acre)?
Do you have problems with certain uses allowed in certain zones or Character Areas?
This Major update is the time to address any and all concerns.”
The first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29th at 6pm in the North Hall Community Center. Meeting #2 would be on Tuesday, October 6th at 6pm in the Government Center. Meeting #3 would on Tuesday, October 13th at 6pm in the East Hall Community Center. Meeting #4 would be on Tuesday, October 20th at 6pm in the Blackshear Place Library. Meeting #5 is currently “to be determined.”
“Please try and make plans to attend a meeting,” Crawford concludes. “The District 3 feedback to the minor update back in June was well recorded. We had more feedback in District 3 than the rest of the district meetings combined. People in District 3 are concerned about the growth and awareness and interest in these meetings is the best way to be informed about what can or should happen.”
