NWS: Dangerous heat returning

The usually hot temperatures of a couple of weeks ago are returning as we flip the calendar from August to September with little chance for rain until Labor Day weekend and then chances are slim.

“High pressure building over the eastern US will bring temperatures above normal to start September,” an advisory from the National Weather Service (NWS) says. “Highs well into the 90s and heat index values over 100 can be expected for most areas outside of the mountains, so remember to take heat safety precautions.”

The Gainesville area forecast calls for highs of 90-95 through Sunday with heat index readings between 95-100.
