A sewage spill occurred Tuesday in an unnamed tributary of Lake Lanier, according to the Gainesville Department of Water Resources (DWR).
“At approximately 9 a.m., DWR was notified of a sanitary sewer manhole discharging near the 1200 block of McEver Road SW.” city spokeswoman Christina Santee wrote in an email today. “The discharge entered a storm drain system that flowed into an unnamed tributary of Lake Lanier and was determined to be caused by an air valve malfunction.”
Santee says it took about fifteen minutes to stop the flow and “no dead or stressed aquatic life were found.”
It was the fifth sewage spill in Gainesville this year.
