Lumpkin road to honor Cherokees

Wednesday will be a special day for members of the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee.

“…At 10:00 a.m., members of the Historical Society and other interested people are invited to attend the Dedication of the renaming of part of Auraria Road (in Lumpkin County) to the Cherokee Heritage Parkway,” an announcement on Facebook says.

“This is an important step in the recognition and future development of a Cherokee Historical Center that is planned for the Auraria community,” the announcement goes on to say.

The ceremony will take place at the intersection of Auraria Road and Georgia Highway 9.
