*Another human case of the West Nile virus is being reported in Georgia. The Department of Public Health confirmed this week that a Chatham County resident has been diagnosed, which makes it the second case in the Peach State this year. The first case of the mosquito-borne virus came out of Muscogee County.
*Charges are being dropped against a double murder suspect in Macon. The DA’s office says there’s insufficient evidence to prove Trequan Fox guilty due to a court-suppressed recorded statement. Fox faced charges for the shooting deaths of two men five-years ago.
*Concerns are rising about conditions inside an ICE detention facility in Columbus. Georgia’s Hank Johnson and Nikema Williams were among several members of Congress who toured Stewart Detention Center earlier this week in response to reports of poor living conditions. The representatives reported detainees spoke about poor access to medical care, black tap water and more.
*Health officials in Georgia say new data show kindergarten vaccination rates are falling at dangerously low levels. The Pediatrics Director at Mercy Care, Adam Kraus, tells ANF increased skepticism about vaccines has contributed to a rise in non-medical exemptions. This comes as the CDC says vaccine exemptions in kindergarteners across the country rose more than four percent last school year. In Georgia, the exemption rate is over five percent, which Kraus says threatens herd immunity.
