Former volunteer back with NGHS but in different role

A woman who began her healthcare career as a teen volunteer with Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) has returned to the organization as a physician assistant.

Sarah Williamson has joined NGHS’s Northeast Georgia Physicians Group Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine. Williamson first connected with the health system as a volunteer and later worked in its hospitals as a patient care technician while completing her education. She said it is meaningful to reach this stage of her career in the same organization where she first discovered her interest in medicine.

Her work focuses on care of the hand and upper extremities, from shoulder to fingers. She works alongside orthopedic surgeon Travis Patterson, assisting in the operating room and seeing patients before and after surgery.

Outside of her clinical work, Williamson is active in local pet‑adoption efforts. She said she often volunteers at adoption events and encourages people to adopt dogs and cats, saying pets help keep people active.
