Infant injured in wreck several weeks ago dies

A three-month-old Cleveland girl, seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash in Dawson County August 4, has died.

Aurora Fortenberry died last Saturday, according to her obituary. She was the daughter of Jesse Fortenberry and Britnee Isenberger Fortenberry.

The state patrol said Sunday she died at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she had been hospitalized since the accident which occurred when the car she was in left Georgia Highway 9 near Jewell Slaton Road and hit a tree.

“Aurora Fortenberry, age 3 months, was restrained in the rear seat in a car seat and received serious injuries,” the state patrol’s Capt. Crystal Zion said Sunday. Britnee Fortenberry was the only other person in the car and was not seriously injured.

The trooper who investigated the crash was told before arriving that EMTs were “actively performing” CPR on the baby, Capt. Zion said.

The child’s funeral was held Saturday in Gainesville.
