Two Gainesville firefighters have been suspended for a day with pay following wreck Monday at a south Gainesville intersection. It happened at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and S. Bradford Street.
According to the state patrol, the fire truck was traveling east on MLK with its emergency equipment activated. The WeGo van was headed south on Bradford and came to a stop at the intersection before entering, yielding to other traffic.
“Investigators determined the fire truck failed to use due regard when it went through a stop sign at the intersection, striking the passenger side of the van,” the state patrol report says. “The impact caused the van to rotate clockwise and overturn onto its driver’s side, coming to rest on the east side of the roadway. The fire truck stopped in the intersection.”
The firemen were not injured nor was the van driver. There were no passengers in the van.
