The City of Gainesville is reporting another sewage spill but it’s nothing compared the one that occurred a couple of weeks ago. A spokeswoman for the city said Thursday this one amounted to 3,600 gallons and flowed into Lake Knickerbocker.
Christina Santee said it was coming from a manhole near the 600 block of East Lake Drive. “The spill, caused by a buildup of debris in the line, flowed into Lake Knickerbocker before crews restored normal operation,” Santee said. “The blockage was cleared within about an hour.”
The water department estimates that about 3,600 gallons of sewage entered the lake. There has been no sign of dead or stressed aquatic life, and water‑quality measurements remained within state standards, she said.
