A teenager wanted on a court warrant was taken into custody early Monday after Hall County sheriff’s deputies said he ran from them during a traffic stop conducted while he was riding a bicycle in the wrong lane on Jesse Jewell Parkway near Atlanta Highway.
Deputies reported seeing Aramis Bashan Smith, 17, traveling west in the eastbound lanes shortly after 1:00 and stopped him. “During the stop, they learned he had an outstanding Hall County Superior Court warrant,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said Tuesday. “As they attempted to detain him, Smith ran, climbed a fence at Alta Vista Cemetery and got away.”
Deputies later got warrants for failure to operate a bicycle on the correct side of the road, violating bicycle lighting requirements and obstruction of an officer.
Smith was located and arrested later that day at the courthouse and remained in jail at last check.
