Gainesville Parks and Recreation is once again bringing goats to Wilshire Trails Park as part of an effort to clear the area of invasive vegetation. They are due to arrive August 21.
The Goats on the Greenway project uses a herd to eat kudzu, ivy and other fast‑spreading plants that crowd out native growth. The approach allows the city to maintain trails and natural areas without heavy machinery or chemical treatments.
Visitors are welcome to view the goats but keep pets away from them, don’t feed or pet them, and don’t approach the electric fence.
The goats made their first appearance at the park two years ago: Baaaaaa: Gainesville’s goatscaping goats
