*The Georgia Department of Transportation will be closing a section of the I-285 on Atlanta’s west side for construction, once again this weekend. Officials say all lanes in both directions will be closed between South Atlanta Road and Paces Ferry Road. Closures will begin at 7:00 tonight and continue until 5 a.m. on Monday. Detours will be set up via roadside and overhead signs guiding motorists to use I-75, the I-75/I-85 Connector, and I-20.
*Georgia is expanding school mental health services through the Georgia Apex Program, which places licensed professionals in schools and collaborates with community providers. This ensures K-12 students can access mental health counseling on campus. As the new school year ramps up, parents are also encouraged to watch for warning signs in their children, including changes in mood and social withdrawal.
*Students in Hancock County are facing a different situation, as all schools in the district were closed yesterday and will be closed again today. The reason: snakes. Latrasha Palmer, the Interim Superintendent of the school district, says each school in the district is being inspection for the varmints after snakes were discovered inside one school. Palmer says she was told that the snakes could be poisonous, which led her to close the schools.
