GDOT planning sidewalk on portion of TBR

The state Department of Transportation (GDOT) is planning a sidewalk along a portion of Thompson Bridge Road (TBR), the Gainesville Mayor and City Council were told Tuesday night. And the council voted to give GDOT a portion of a city lot that it owns for the project.

The site, City Manager Brian Lackey said, is at the corner of Thompson Bridge Road and Tommy Aaron Drive.

The council also approved acceptance of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) totaling $448,000 and the reappointments of John Haynes, Alvin Kemp, Jr. and Allen Nivens to the Airport Advisory Committee and Ruth Bruner and Brad Abernathy to the Historic Preservation Commission.

Per hud.gov, CDBGs are grants that are to be used to develop “viable urban communities by offering decent housing, a suitable living environment, and expanding economic opportunities, particularly for low- and moderate-income persons.”
