Gville man charged with 3-month-old car theft

A Gainesville man is in custody following his weekend arrest on outstanding warrants in a vehicle theft case under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

Jesus Campa, 30, was booked into the Hall County Jail on Saturday following his arrest by Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers. HCSO investigators obtained warrants for Campa in May charging him with felony theft by taking and misdemeanor theft by deception.

On May 21, deputies responded to a stolen vehicle call at a residence in the 2000 block of Ridgeway Drive. According to the preliminary investigation, a tow truck arrived at the residence and towed the victim’s vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, away. Neither the victim nor his landlord authorized the SUV to be towed.

Investigators and the victim recovered the SUV on May 22 at GO Pull-It, 2156 Athens Highway. Staff at the business worked with investigators to identify Campa as the seller of the vehicle. Campa had signed paperwork claiming ownership of the SUV using the victim’s address. He received approximately $600 for the Tahoe, which is worth approximately $1,300.

Campa is being held without bond for misdemeanor probation violation. Bond is $16,884.80 on his other charges.
