The drought continued to loosen its grip on Georgia over the past week in both intensity and coverage area, but part of Hall County remains among the driest places in the state. That’s the section northwest of the Chattahoochee River bordering White, Lumpkin and Dawson counties.
The drought-free parts continue to grow but remain clustered along that Augusta-to-Macon-to-Columbus line.
Meanwhile, the level of Lake Lanier is 1066.5, up six-tenths of a foot from a week ago, no doubt aided by the torrential rains that fell a week ago in the Gainesville area and runoff from those same rains upstream along the Chattahoochee and Chestatee rivers which feed the lake.
