A Clermont man was arrested Saturday night after Hall County sheriff’s deputies said he initially refused to stop and was later found with methamphetamine in his pickup.
Deputies said the incident began around 7:40 near Mt. Vernon Road and Gilstrap Mill Road, where a deputy saw a pickup rounding a curve at a high rate of speed, crossing the fog line. As the truck passed, the force of the speeding vehicle shook the deputy’s patrol car, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy turned around, activated her lights and siren and attempted a traffic stop, but she lost sight of the truck after continuing on Mount Vernon Road for about 45 seconds. She radioed a description of the vehicle to other deputies in the area.
About 10 minutes later, deputies stopped the truck in a gas station parking lot at Dahlonega Highway and Cleveland Highway. The driver, identified as Tyler Cade Story, 25, was taken into custody.
Deputies said they found less than a gram of meth in the truck and charged Story with felony possession of methamphetamine. He was also charged with fleeing or attempting to elude, DUI of several substances, reckless driving, and license plate bracket and windshield tint violations.
Story was taken to the Hall County Jail, where he remained held without bond late Monday afternoon.
