A group seeking the recall of Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch made the best of a break in the rainy weather Saturday by holding a signature‑gathering at the intersection of Old Cornelia Highway and Joe Chandler Road.
The county elections office confirmed earlier in the week that organizers of the recall movement had had qualified to move ahead in trying to collect the more than 42,000 signatures of registered voters needed to force a recall vote. They have until Sept. 3 to get those signatures.
Organizers have said the effort is intended to address concerns they described as related to integrity and professionalism within the sheriff’s office and follows Couch’s arrest early in the year on a DUI charge. He is back on duty but is awaiting trial.
