“Rounds of showers and storms with high rainfall rates could lead to localized flash flooding on Saturday,” the National Weather Service (NWS) says in its lates advisory following Friday’s torrential rains that pounded the Gainesville area. The risk is “minimal,” however, a Level 1 out of 5.
Meanwhile, clean-up continues following Friday’s rains, totaling around six inches, resulting in flooded roads, fallen trees, and some power outages.
The latest report from the Hall County Emergency Management Agency’s (EMA) Emergency Operations Center (EOC) showed 22 roads had been affected by the storm, mostly flooded. There is one road that is washed out, Falcon Crest Drive, and it is not expected to be repaired until later today.
“Repair of this culvert is awaiting arrival of materials and personnel,” a county spokeswoman said last night. “Anticipated resolution is Saturday afternoon. Affected citizens are being contacted by public safety personnel to provide information and assess needs.”
Meanwhile, rainfall at the University of Georgia Weather Station in Oakwood totaled 5.14 inches yesterday. (The NWS station at the airport in Gainesville remains out of service.)
