Flowery Branch police arrested a 44-year-old man earlier this week after officers say he grabbed a bottle of pseudoephedrine from an employee and ran out of a Spout Springs Road business without paying. Michael Akers of Flowery Branch is the husband of a woman arrested by Oakwood Police in a similar incident in their jurisdiction. (Pseudoephedrine is an oral medication that relieves nasal and sinus congestion but is also used in the manufacture of meth.)
Flowery Branch Asst. Police Chief Todd Templeton said officers were called to the 5900 block of Spout Springs Road last weekend for a reported theft in progress. According to investigators, a man, later identified as Akers, entered the store and asked an employee for a bottle of “pseudo.” When the employee handed it to him, the suspect allegedly snatched the item from the worker and fled.
Chief Templeton said detectives later identified the suspect as Akers. Wednesday, Flowery Branch investigators, working with the Oakwood Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence on Overbrook Drive, where they made contact with Akers and Jennifer Akers and arrested both.
