8:15 A.M. FRIDAY UPDATE:
Antwane Sintell Thurmond, the Hall County murder suspect arrested in Augusta Thursday, was returned to Gainesville overnight. Jail records show he was booked at 10:45, about six hours after his arrest.
EARLIER STORY. POSTED 7:15 THURSDAY NIGHT: The man wanted in last Thursday’s shooting death of Tia Vidon Keith, 44, of Oakwood, at a South Hall convenience store has been arrested at a motel in Augusta.
Antwane Sintell Thurmond, 45, of Oakwood, was taken into custody at 4:10 this (Thursday) afternoon at the Motel 6 at 3421 Wrightsboro Road. Thurmond was alone in a motel room, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said.
“Special teams assigned to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office approached the hotel and took
Thurmond into custody without incident,” Williams added. “Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were in Augusta at the time of Thurmond’s arrest.”
Currently, Thurmond is in custody at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. It is unknown if he
faces charges in that jurisdiction, Williams said. He will be transported as soon as possible to the Hall County Jail to face charges of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault under the Family
Violence Act.
Keith was Thurmond’s ex-girlfriend, authorities have said. Witnesses said she was shot several times sitting in her car outside the store and again after she managed to get into the store.
