HCSO: Firebug, wood-be thief arrested

Hall County deputies arrested a Cleveland woman Wednesday after they say she climbed into a pickup truck at a Clermont residence and set part of the vehicle on fire.

Chrystal Yvonne Maney, 43, was taken into custody after deputies responded just before 9:00 a.m. to a possible burglary in progress on Hub Head Road. A neighbor reported seeing a woman on surveillance footage attempting to enter the home and a pickup parked in the driveway while the homeowner was away.

Deputies say they found Maney hiding in a woodline near the Mossy Creek Plantation subdivision.

According to the sheriff’s office, surveillance video showed Maney entering the truck and rummaging through the cab. When deputies opened the driver-side door to check for missing items, smoke poured out. The floorboard and gear-shift area had been burned.

Deputies charged Maney with entering auto to commit a theft. Hall County Fire Rescue investigators charged her with second-degree criminal damage to property.

There’s no indication she knew anyone who lived in the house.

Maney remained in the Hall County Jail Thursday afternoon on a bond of $8,650.
