*An artificial intelligence company is planning to build a massive data center near Savannah. OpenAI is planning to invest $20 (B) billion into a center on a property off Georgia 21 near I-95 in Effingham County. The company expects to employ around 400 people there when the facility opens in a couple of years. The Effingham County Industrial Development Authority approved a 50% property tax abatement for the project.
*Tybee Island’s beach is facing erosion problems that can’t be ignored, city officials say. The AJC reports Mayor Brian West and others are asking the Corps of Engineers to refurbish the beach, which UGA researchers say has lost more than 50% of its sand since 2020.
*A Georgia sheriff won’t be getting any help from GoFundMe for his legal defense in a federal criminal case. The online fundraising platform told WRDW that all donors to Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams have been refunded because the drive violates GoFundMe’s rules. Williams is accused of taking money to dismiss DUI cases
