Hall County has released a summary of the public feedback received during its recent engagement period for the proposed updates to the Hall County Comprehensive Plan and Unified Development Code (UDC).
“Planning and Zoning staff hosted three public engagement meetings and received 255 comments,” Director of Planning and Zoning Katie Ahmed said. “There were several key themes and concerns, including comments focused on data centers, residential developments and responsible growth, which will be used to help guide our next steps in the process.”
Based on the public’s feedback, staff members are finalizing revisions to the draft documents. Primary revisions include adjustments to the Residential Single Family (R-SF) zoning district to better align with existing Planned Residential Development (PRD) standards and clearer definitions for Activity Centers and Urbanized areas within the Hall County Comprehensive Plan.
“Several broader themes, such as growth management, development patterns, infrastructure capacity and the preservation of community character, will continue to be evaluated as part of the upcoming major Comprehensive Plan updates, which we anticipate to begin following the July 23 Board of Commissioners public hearing,” Ahmed said.
Planning and Zoning staff will present the proposed Comprehensive Plan and UDC updates to the Board of Commissioners on Thursday, Aug. 13, with final consideration and possible adoption planned for Thursday, Aug. 27. Both meetings will be held at 6 p.m. inside the 2nd Floor Commission Meeting Room at the Hall County Government Center, located at 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.
A full summary of the comments received during the public engagement period is available online at hallcounty.org, along with a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document that addresses many of the questions raised during the engagement period, including the purpose of the proposed updates, project timeline and questions regarding data center regulations.
“We urge citizens to review the public engagement summary and supporting documents made available online,” Ahmed said. “It’s important for citizens to remain involved in the process and ask any questions they may have along the way.”
Citizens may continue to submit comments, concerns and questions by emailing Hall County Planning and Zoning directly at [email protected]. Citizens may also attend any upcoming Board of Commissioners meeting to provide input during the Public Comment portion of the agenda. To ensure input is considered for the proposed updates, staff recommend selecting a meeting prior to the Aug. 13 presentation.
