An evening of dining, dancing and fireworks is planned next week at the Lake Lanier Olympic Park (LLOP) to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1996 Summer Olympics arrival in Gainesville.
Built for the Olympic rowing and canoe/kayak competitions on Lake Lanier, the park is one of the last remaining venues from the games that continues to be used for its original purpose.
To celebrate the milestone, the Lake Lanier Olympic Park Foundation will host a ticketed event at 6:30 July 25 at The Boathouse at Lake Lanier which is located at the park. Proceeds will benefit the Foundation, enabling it to fund future enhancements at the facility.
“We welcome guests interested in celebrating LLOP’s rich history and legacy of excellence to join us for an unforgettable evening featuring chef-curated cuisines from around the world, live entertainment and a spectacular fireworks finale over Lake Sidney Lanier,” said Gainesville Tourism Director Robyn Lynch.
Individual tickets are $100 and tables (accommodating eight guests total) cost $1,000. The purchase of each ticket and/or table secures recipients dinner prepared by chef Rand Carswell with Pop Catering & Events and two drink tickets. Served will be fare from the five continents of the Olympic rings — Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia and Europe, plus a selection of beverages from a “Wines of the World” bar.
The Atlanta Wedding Band will provide music for dancing and the celebration will end with a 10:00 fireworks show over the lake.
