Gville man charged with DUI, PUI within minutes of each other

A Gainesville man is free on bond following his arrest on Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Pedestrian Under the Influence (PUI) charges within minutes of an incident early Tuesday in South Hall.

“Deputies responded to Bancroft Lane around 12:15 a.m. after receiving reports of a woman knocking on doors,” sheriff’s office spokesman Derreck Booth said. “They located her on L.J. Martin Drive and learned she had been riding home with Eduardo Ajanel‑Ajanel, 38, when his vehicle broke down. Both had begun walking because their phones were dead.”

While speaking with the woman, deputies received another call about a suspicious person knocking on a door in the 5100 block of Ponderosa Farm Road. Deputies found Ajanel‑Ajanel and reported smelling alcohol on him. He was arrested for DUI‑alcohol and pedestrian under the influence.

“Deputies also cited him for driving while license suspended, driving while unlicensed and, after finding two open beer cans within reach of the driver’s seat during an inventory search, open container violation,” Booth added.

Ajanel‑Ajanel was booked into the Hall County Jail. He posted $2,990 bond and was released early this (Wednesday) morning.
