A driver who fled the scene of a two‑vehicle crash on Sardis Road Wednesday was later arrested for driving under the influence after he drove past the crash site while the investigation was still underway.
The incident occurred as he was traveling south on Sardis Road in the left‑turn lane, attempting to turn onto East Sardis Road. Another vehicle was traveling north in the left lane. The state patrol (GSP) says he failed to yield while making the turn, causing his vehicle to strike the other and then drove away before the trooper arrived.
While the trooper was still on scene, he returned, driving past the crash site. The other driver recognized the vehicle and pointed it out to the officer. After further investigation, the trooper confirmed the vehicle and driver were indeed involved in the crash.
The trooper subsequently arrested 63-year-old Robert Leroy Pharr and charged him with DUI and charges related to leaving the scene and failing to yield. Pharr remained in the Hall County Jail at mid-morning Saturday. He was being held on bonds totaling $4,030.
