Forsyth Co. man charged with murder after roof repair dispute leads to shooting

A Forsyth County man has been charged with murder after a dispute over roof repairs escalated into a deadly shooting between roommates.

Deputies responded to a Shiloh Road home in early May 2026 and found Antonio Sanchez, 51, suffering from several gunshot wounds. Before being taken to the hospital, Sanchez identified his shooter as “Luis.”

With help from their landlord and witness statements, investigators later confirmed that the suspect in the case was Jose Luis Delgado Mendoza, 35. Mendoza was arrested the following day, and a sheriff’s K‑9 unit recovered the handgun used in the incident.

According to investigators, the argument began over roof repair responsibilities. The dispute turned physical when Mendoza retrieved a handgun from his room and confronted Sanchez. Sanchez reportedly advanced with a machete, prompting Mendoza to fire. After Sanchez dropped the machete, Mendoza allegedly fired additional shots as Sanchez left the home before fleeing the scene.

Sanchez died from his injuries on July 4. Mendoza, initially charged with aggravated assault, now faces a murder charge. He remains in custody at the Forsyth County Jail without bond.
