Lula boil water advisory remains in place, town hall meeting held on water supply issue

City officials in Lula spent an hour-and-a-half Friday night explaining the town’s water crisis and listening to comments and taking questions from those at a town hall meeting.

It’s now been almost a week since a boil water advisory was issued because of low water pressure and a dwindling supply of water in the town’s water tank.

A real-time video of the meeting was aired on the city’s Facebook page and remains there this morning.

“May I suggest daily updates on social media platforms. In this day and age I almost feel like door hangers are outdated plus the man power to achieve that would be astronomical,” one citizen suggested on social media after the meeting. “Volunteers would be needed to achieve that. Simple updates would help ease the panic. I understand that not everyone “has social media” but there is enough out there that we can get the word spread.”

“If we can receive our bill in an email ( which I do), we should be able to receive an email about water concerns.”

Other comments praised city officials for holding the meeting:

“Great job being transparent and describing the problem and having a solution.”

“The city done an excellent job tonight explaining everything!”

“Thank you for this meeting, it helps to understand what is being done. At least you guys are going to try and put more effort into communicating issues. That’s all you can promise.”

“If we have been in a drought why was there no recommendation to avoid excessive water use until last week?”
