The severity of Georgia’s drought continued to decrease over the past week.
The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) reports that as of Thursday only a tiny portion (2.66%) of northeast, eastern and south Georgia were experiencing “extreme” conditions compared to three months ago when that was true of 38% of the state.
The affected counties this week are all or portions of Towns, Union, Fannin, Gilmer and Lumpkin. Also, Screven, Effingham, and Chatham and Echols and Lowndes.
Conditions remain “severe” in most of northeast Georgia, including Hall County.
And just FYI: a year ago this week, the state was 100% free of drought.
Regarding the level of Lake Lanier, it is at 1066.6, the same that it was a week ago.
