UPDATE: GDOT closes bridge; D-Day observance planned; Bird flu: The latest

*(GA. NEWS NETWORK) – A Habersham County bridge is shutting down for safety reasons. The state Department of Transportation (GDOT) decided to close the 7th Street Bridge in Mt. Airy after a recent inspection. The town is working with the agency to identify what repairs and upgrades need to be made before it reopens.

*REMINDER: Downtown Gainesville will be the site of a D-Day observance at mid-day Saturday. The silent vigil will take place at Roosevelt Square11:00-12:00, honoring those who “bravely served” on D-Day and to “remind ourselves that democracy requires our sacrifice,” according to its organizers, Indivisible Hall. The allied invasion of France on June 6, 1944, is considered a turning point of World War II.

*(SRN NEWS/RWUTERS) – The French government has cut its assessment of bird flu risk to its lowest level, lifting measures to contain the virus, including requiring poultry to be kept indoors. The risk level for virus was reduced to “negligible” from “moderate,” the agriculture ministry said. No nationwide measures remain in place, though local authorities may impose restrictions based on local risk assessments. France lowered its risk assessment to “moderate” from “high” in late April.
