Saturday was anything but normal in Helen.
“There has been a watermain break at the intersection of Brucken Strasse and Norba Way in the area of Loreley Resort and the Pink Pig BBQ restaurant,” Helen Fire & EMS announced in a social media post.. “Currently the section of Brucken Strasse from the Pink Pig across the bridge to Loreley is completely shut down to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic.”
Water to the broken pipe was shut down and crews began assessing the damage and preparing for repair operations.
“The roadway will remain closed for an extended period…” the posting continued, while noting that the state Department of Transportation(GDOT) had been contacted and was responding to the scene to inspect the bridge that crosses the Chattahoochee River “due to the water main washing out some of the soil and embankment around the bridge.”
Cool River Tubing and Adventures as well as Helen Tubing patrons were being allowed to exit the river at the normal exit points. Once the area is assessed, if any changes need to be made regarding safe exit points while work is performed an update will be given.
The water main break affected water supplies to the Pink Pig BBQ restaurant, Helen Tubing, Cool River Tubing and Adventures as well as residents and properties on Norba Way.
