FBPD: Commerce woman charged with exploitation of elderly, credit card fraud

Flowery Branch Police have charged Stacy Fay Barton, 49, of
Commerce, with Financial Transaction Card Fraud and Exploitation of an
Elder Person.

On May 14, a 70-year-old woman contacted the Flowery Branch Police
Department and reported an unauthorized charge of $220 to a credit card
account.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Barton used
the victim’s credit card information to make a car payment to a local
dealership. Barton was not known to the victim.

Investigators established probable cause and obtained arrest warrants charging
Ms. Barton with Financial Transaction Card Fraud and Exploitation of an Elder
Person.

She was arrested May 21 by officers with the Banks County Sheriff’s Office and remained in the Hall County Jail late Monday afternoon in lieu of bonds totaling $9,200.
