Nearly 200 holiday weekend DUI arrests in Ga. so far, including eight in Hall Co.

There was a huge increase in the number of holiday weekend DUI arrests overnight in Georgia, according to a Sunday morning report from the state patrol – and the number in Hall County for the weekend is at least eight.

State troopers say that as of Sunday mid-morning, the number of DUI arrests around the state, according to reports from all law enforcement agencies, stood at 185.

“Memorial Day Holiday Travel Period is still underway,” a state patrol report on X says, “and overnight, DUI arrests across Georgia increased from 89 to 185.” That’s an additional 96 impaired drivers taken off the state’s roads and highways.

The number of people processed through the Hall County Jail since the holiday weekend count began was eight ranging in age from 17 to 51 and including two women and six men. Five were still behind bars late Sunday morning. The number arrested includes cases made by not only the county sheriff’s office but all police departments in the county as well as the local state patrol office.

And state patrol says that since the holiday counting period began at 6:00 Friday evening, there had been 12 DUI-related traffic accidents.

Traffic fatalities stood at six, none in northeast Georgia.
