*The Banks County Board of Education recently selected Michael Williams, the district’s Secondary Curriculum Director, as the sole finalist to become the next superintendent of Banks County Schools. Williams whose appointment is expected to be finalized in a couple of weeks, would succeed Dr. Ann Hopkins, who plans to retire Oct. 1. Under Georgia law, the appointment cannot become official until a 14-day public comment period has passed.
*Three people, including a 10-year-old student, are recovering from injuries sustained Thursday when a minivan collided head-on with a Jackson County school bus. The bus driver and the driver of the minivan were also injured. All of the injuries were described as “minor.” The minivan driver was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
*Gov. Kemp, on a campaign stop in Gainesville Friday with U.S. Senate candidate Derek Dooley, said he has not decided whether to extend the suspension of embattled Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch. The 60-day suspension is set to expire next Saturday. Kemp also said he’s undecided about whether to extend the state gasoline tax suspension.
