Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies arrested a Lawrenceville man on DUI and other charges following a South Hall traffic crash that forced the hours-long closure of an intersection early Wednesday morning.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“At approximately 12:30 a.m., deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash at Blackjack Road and Mitchell Creek Drive. Hall County Fire Rescue also responded and checked the driver for injuries, which were minor. The driver of the 2006 Honda Accord, Juan Diaz-Hernandez, 23, was traveling alone.
According to the initial investigation by a Sheriff’s Office Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) Unit deputy, Diaz-Hernandez failed to negotiate a curve. His vehicle left the roadway and struck guy wires supporting a utility pole, causing the pole to snap. The unsupported utility lines then pulled down another pole.
The investigating deputy arrested Diaz-Hernandez on charges of DUI, an open container violation and driving while unlicensed. The deputy also cited him for reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions and failure to maintain lane. During the arrest, the deputy found Diaz-Hernandez in possession of a small amount of cocaine, resulting in a felony charge of possession of cocaine.
The crash forced the closing of the intersection for more than ten hours while utility crews repaired and replaced poles and wires.
Deputies transported Diaz-Hernandez to the Hall County Jail, where he remains held without bond.
