Dawson Co. murder suspect in custody

The man wanted for the murder of a 38-year-old Dawson County man earlier this week has been arrested. Roy “JoJo” Holloway was taken into custody in Davidson County, N.C.

Holloway was early Friday evening following a manhunt in Davidson County after he fled on foot after his car was stopped during a police chase. The car had been included in the lookout for him.

He was wanted for Tuesday’s shooting death of Justin Thompson near Georgia Highway 136 just west of Keith Evans Road.

After Holloway’s capture, Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson had high praise for the police work that led to Holloway’s capture.

“(From) the first responding deputies to our investigators working through the night, our dispatchers, and the nonstop efforts of our Warrants Unit, this has truly been an all-hands-on-deck effort,” Johnson said. “We also want to thank our law enforcement partners across state lines and at the federal level who played a critical role in locating and apprehending the suspect.”

Johson added the woman who was featured on the lookout that was posted with Holloway, Ariel Decarli, has been located, treated for injuries, and is now with her family. There’s been no information released about her and how she came to be with Holloway during his flight.

“I’ve seen firsthand our office and our partners across the Southeast put in long hours, lose sleep, and give everything they had to bring justice in this case. I’m proud of the work done and thankful for the teamwork involved. Please continue to keep Justin Thompson’s family and friends in your prayers.”
