A Gwinnett County man has been charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter following the fentanyl overdose death of a 23-year-old Gainesville man earlier this month.
HCSO NARRATIVE:
“The victim, identified as Chad Logan Morrison, was pronounced dead at a residence on Bryant Quarter Road just after 1 a.m., Sunday, March 1. Just before midnight, the victim’s family members had found Morrison unresponsive in the kitchen of the residence when they arrived home. They attempted life-saving measures and called 911 for help.
Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) were dispatched to the scene. Morrison’s body was transported to the Dekalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.
CIB investigators collected evidence from the scene, including some drug paraphernalia located hear the victim’s body. They also seized the victim’s cell phone.
During the course of the investigation, investigators determined Jalaska Jaimahal Earls, 32, of Buford, had been at the residence on Bryant Quarter Road the night of Morrison’s death. The investigation also determined Earls had brought fentanyl to the scene that night, supplying the victim with the illegal drugs that led to his death.
As a result, Earls was charged with felony aggravated involuntary manslaughter for a fentanyl overdose death. He also was charged with probation violation.”
