An Alto man is in the Habersham County Detention Center following a Thursday afternoon chase with Habersham sheriff’s deputies. The sheriff’s office says the pursuit, which lasted about five minutes, began about 1:00 and traveled from Cornelia onto Cannon Bridge Road before being brought to an end with a PIT maneuver.
No other vehicles were involved and there were no injuries. The driver was arrested and taken to the Habersham County Detention Center.
Zachary Magowan, 32, of Alto is charged by the sheriff’s office with:
- Driving under the influence
- Two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude
- Too fast for conditions
- Failure to obey stop sign
- Two counts of reckless driving
- Driving on the wrong side of the road
- Unsafe vehicle or equipment
- Improper passing in a no passing zone
- Hit and run/failure to stop and render aid
