With the specter of an ICE detention/processing facility hanging over the heads of Oakwood city officials, Social Circle, which is also in the ICE bullseye, is taking action.
City officials confirmed Monday they have put a lock on the water meter connected to the warehouse ICE plans to turn into a facility that will hold thousands of detainees.
The city manager said he informed ICE about the lock shortly after the sale of the property when the agency asked, “how to establish an account.”
“The lock is there until ICE indicates how water and sewer will be served without exceeding our limited infrastructure capacity,” the city’s statement reads.
But ICE counters that the detention facility will be designed “to not affect the existing infrastructure adversely in any way.”
