State tax collections down; State lawmaker resigning; The leader in a new gubernatorial poll

*Georgia’s net tax collections in February totaled $2.12 billion, for a decrease of 0.1%, compared to February 2025, when net tax collections approached $2.13 billion for the month.  Year-to-date, net tax revenue collections through eight months totaled roughly $21.88 billion for an increase 1.6%, compared to FY 2025.

*A state lawmaker facing charges for alleged COVID fraud is leaving office. Valdosta state representative Dexter Sharper is accused of collecting more than $13,000 in unemployment for almost a year after April 2020, even though he was earning wages. He announced on social media Monday that he’s resigning from his House seat, which he’s held for over 13-years.  
 
 *A new poll shows a sizable lead for one GOP candidate in the primary race for Georgia governor. A survey from JM Analytics and Polling resulted in 37% support for businessman Rick Jackson over 25% for Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, with no other candidate above 11%.
