A three-man committee was appointed by Gov. Kemp Friday to investigate Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch following his arrest last Friday on DUI and related charges.
Attorney General Chris Carr, Greene County Sheriff Donnie Harrison and Glasscock County Sheriff Jeremy Kelley have 30 days to finish their report and turn it over to Kemp.
The governor has the authority to suspend a sheriff charged with criminal activity or misconduct for 60 days and to extend any suspension for another 30 days.
Earlier Friday, the sheriff’s office had issued a statement saying that following the established line of succession in the office the chief deputy is now in charge. (See earlier story.)
